Based at Modesto City-County Airport, the Central California Valley Squadron is a local unit of the Commemorative Air Force dedicated to preserving, restoring, and flying historic military aircraft. The squadron operates from a historic 1929 hangar—one of California’s oldest—which houses a collection of World War II and postwar liaison aircraft, or “L-Birds,” dating from 1942 through 1951. Through aircraft displays, flying experiences, community events, and regular hangar gatherings, the squadron keeps military aviation history alive while educating and inspiring future generations.
