Santa Paula Airport (SZP) is a historic public-use airport with a remarkable place in Southern California aviation culture. Established in 1930, the airport has long been known for its close-knit community of pilots, aircraft builders, restorers, and collectors, with rows of distinctive hangars and an enduring connection to vintage and classic aviation. Among its most famous residents was actor and avid aviator Steve McQueen, who lived in Hangar #112 during the final 18 months of his life. With its rich history, character, and strong community spirit, Santa Paula remains one of California’s most distinctive general aviation airports.
The Aviation Museum of Santa Paula celebrates the rich aviation history of Santa Paula and its long-standing connection to the local airport. Rather than a traditional single-building museum, its collection is spread among historic hangars filled with vintage aircraft, restoration projects, memorabilia, and artifacts from generations of flying. With an active aviation community and the scenic mountains of the Santa Clara River Valley as a backdrop, it’s a distinctive destination where visitors can experience aviation history in the environment where much of it was made.
